Building Department
From the desk of the Building Official;
This department provides plan reviews and inspections of buildings and structures within the city for projects of original construction, additions, alterations, changes of use, and more. We also have the inspection services of qualified personnel and certified inspectors who help to maintain the needed focus on construction safety and code compliance.
We have the overall responsibility of regulating and interpreting the building codes of the State of Ohio for all building types and uses; this includes both public and private, residential and commercial, factory and industrial. With safety and welfare being foremost in all that we do, we often partner with other departments and agencies to provide the greatest service benefit possible. Along with the departments of Fire Protection, Planning and Zoning, Engineering, Water, Health (plumbing) and Sanitation (Medina County), we are continually examining ways to expand and define our common goals.
A recent perception-building effort being advanced nationwide to improve the image of building departments everywhere is currently finding its way throughout our state as well. Whereas, personnel of Police and Fire Departments, and Emergency Medical Technicians are commonly referred to as "First Responders", the term "First Preventers" is being strongly viewed as an appropriate focal point for code officials and inspectors alike in their efforts throughout the regulatory process.
"First Preventers", that's really all of us! And thanks for letting us help with your future plans.
Yours in Building Safety,
Jon H. Parker, Building Official
