Sandridge Food Corporation:
 |
| Sandridge Food Corporation |
One thing that the Sandridge family has learned in over two generations in the food business: “If the recipe works, stick with it!” The company founded by Vincent Sandridge in 1965, focuses upon fresh refrigerated foods and soups and more than 40 years later the family-owned business still maintains the entrepreneurial spirit its founder instilled.
That spirit and focus upon delivering a high quality product has grown the Sandridge Food Corporation (SFC) into a leader in the North American food service industry. As evidence of the market gains the past two years have been a balancing act of meeting the increasing demand for their products while planning the expansion necessary to carry that off. SFC has completed two significant expansions with three to four additional projects in the planning stages for 2010 and 2011. In 2008, the company completed a $7 million expansion to its cold storage warehouse; $2 million of the investment was M & E. To assist the company in their cash flow the city of Medina provided SFC with a 15 year tax abatement on the new property valuation.
In 2009, the company set itself apart from its competition by expanding its production department and purchasing new processing equipment that secures its quality position in the industry and permits it to reach new markets. The City assisted Sandridge to secure a $2 million Direct 166 loan from the state of Ohio, state of Ohio job creation tax credits, a city of Medina job creation grant and a CRA tax abatement. The $5 million project included $1.25 million in new construction, and $3.45 million in new equipment. Over the next 3 years an additional the two projects will create an additional 80 jobs. For the city’s effort, it has been recognized as a finalist for the Team NEO Economic Development Impact Awards in the category of Business Expansion. This is the second year in a row that the city of Medina has been so recognized.
Currently the city is working with SFC on expansions of their soup line, improvements in pasta production, an R & D kitchen and dry goods storage. It all points to a promising future for the family-owned business and edifies the city of Medina’s byline, “Preserving the Past and Forging the Future”. For SFC's website click here.
