The Life Support Team (LST) went into service in 1976 as the EMS provider for the City of Medina. What this means is that when you call 9-1-1 one of our LST squads is dispatched to provide emergency medical assistance for you.
The squads responding to your 9-1-1 calls are staffed by experienced, highly trained paramedics. That’s important, because as paramedics they have the training and expertise to assess medical conditions and administer medications on site. Our paramedics provide rapid response utilizing state-of-the-art pre-hospital equipment and the latest EMS protocols while working closely with Emergency Room physicians at Medina Hospital. In addition, the LST staff have many years of experience with the hospital. LST staff know the community, where people live and are involved in community programs. They are your neighbors and friends.
Because time is critical when responding to heart attacks, the Medina Hospital Foundation helped the hospital invest in a STEMI communication system for our LST squads. This technology sends electrocardiogram (EKG) information from the LST squads to the Emergency Room physicians at Medina Hospital. The physicians can then determine the appropriate level of care for the patient. If an intervention is needed, the physician can make arrangements with the closest appropriate hospital to perform the procedure, saving precious time.
