Champion Creek Clean-Up printprint
Councilman At-Large Bill Lamb, Councilman Mark Kolesar, Ward 3 and Councilman Brian Hilberg, Ward 1, in conjunction with the City of Medina’s Community Development Department, the Western Reserve Land Conservancy, the Rocky River Watershed Council, and the Medina Community Design Committee hosted the Citywide Creek Clean-Up Day which took place on Saturday June 9th. The collaboration between these groups as well as the enthusiasm of the participants resulted in an effort which can only be described as outstanding! Approximately 100 volunteers joined in on the fun, collecting dozens and dozens of bags of rubbish. Councilman Kolesar, lead organizer, commented "people don’t realize the beauty of the creek that runs through town."

In addition to the creek clean-up, the City of Medina has been active in protecting and highlighting the City’s natural beauty. For instance, the efforts of the group will become even more apparent in the coming months when the Champion Creek Multi-Purpose Trail is fully installed directly adjacent to the Creek in the heart of the City. Additionally, the City has also applied for Ohio EPA’s Surface Water Improvement Fund which, if awarded, would include the installation green infrastructure and Ohio EPA’s 319 grant, which, if awarded, would include creekbed restoration.
We look forward to seeing YOU there next year!
