A team of two sergeants supervise each of our shifts in the Patrol Division. We have six shifts consisting of four 10 hour days manned by 4 to 7 officers depending on the shift and the day. The sergeants are listed below in order of their seniority as sergeants.
You are welcome to email the sergeants with questions, concerns, suggestions, or requests to speak with various groups or organizations. The email system should not be used to request police services that are time sensitive. Due to normal days off, attending training, vacations, or sick leave, there may be periods of time when email is not checked for a week or two. Any immediate needs for police service should be directed to dispatch, 330-725-7777, for an on-duty officer to be assigned.
SERGEANT CALVIN UNDERCOFFER

Sergeant Undercoffer, a 27 year veteran of the department and a former National Merit Scholarship winner is a graduate of the University of Akron receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Undercoffer is also a graduate of the Ohio State Highway Patrol Basic Academy where he graduated first in his class. Undercoffer was promoted to Sergeant in May 1991.In addition to his service in Medina, Undercoffer served four years with the Rittman Police Department. He and his wife, Katrina have three children and make their home in Medina County.
SERGEANT NATHAN SIMPSON

Sergeant Simpson graduated from Medina High School in 1994 and from the University of Akron in 1999 with a degree in education.
In 2001, he graduated from Medina County's Police Academy and was accepted into the Medina Police Department Special Unit.
Sergeant Simpson was hired in August of 2003, as a full time officer with the Medina Police Department. He has served in narcotics, Emergency Services Unit, and as a motorcycle officer.
He was promoted in September of 2007 to the position of Sergeant.
SERGEANT BRETT MCNABB

Sergeant McNabb was hired by the Medina Police Department in January of 1998. He graduated from the Ohio State Highway Patrol academy in April of 1998. McNabb is a graduate of John Carroll University with a bachelor's degree in Political Science.
Sergeant McNabb has served as a Taser instructor, Field Training Officer and as a member of the Emergency Services Unit. He is currently a member of the Medina County Sheriff's Office SWAT team. Sgt. McNabb is currently assinged to Administration.
SERGEANT SCOTT MARCUM

Sergeant Marcum was hired by the Medina Police Department in November of 2000. He grew up in Medina County.
Sergeant Marcum graduated from The University of Toledo with a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice. Marcum has served in narcotics, apartment liaison officer, field training officer, Emergency Services Unit, and the departments firearms instructor.
Sergeant Marcum was promoted to Sergeant in 2008 and is currently working in patrol.
SERGEANT DARIN ZAREMBA

Sergeant Zaremba was hired by the Medina Police Department in May 1995. He graduated from Baldwin Wallace College with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems. His first assignment, from August of 1995 to October of 1998, was as a uniformed patrol officer.
In June of 1998, Zaremba became a field training officer and in October of 1998 he left the patrol division and entered the Community Policing Division as the Business Liaison Officer.
Sergeant Zaremba has served as a member of the department’s Emergency Services Unit from 2003 through January 2008. From December 2001 to December of 2010 his primary assignment was the Network Administrator for the police department. He was promoted to Detective in 2009.
In December of 2010 Zaremba was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to the patrol division, where he supervised a patrol shift. In April of 2012 he returned to his current assignment as Network Administrator.
SERGEANT EDWARD KINNEY

Sergeant Kinney was hired by the Medina Police Department in June of 1997. Sergeant Kinney has held positions in the patrol division, directed patrol division (community oriented policing), motorcycle patrol, emergency services unit and the detective bureau.
Sgt. Kinney was promoted to Sergeant in 2011 and currently supervises a patrol shift. He also coordinates the Medina Police Department field training program. The field training program is responsible for training new officers.
SERGEANT PATRICK SLOAN

Sergeant Sloan graduated from the University of Dayton and has been a Medina police officer since 2003. While assigned to the Patrol Division, he served as a field training officer as well as a member of the Emergency Services Unit. In October of 2009 he was assigned to the Special Operations Division as a detective during which time he obtained advanced training in crime scene processing. Sloan currently serves as a member of the Medina County SWAT team and is the department's liaison to the Medina County Juvenile Diversion Program.
Sloan was promoted to Sergeant in 2012 and is currently working in patrol,supervising a patrol shift.
