The Medina Civil Service Commission announces an open competitive exam on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at 6:30pm for the following position:

 

ASSISTANT HEAD CUSTODIAN

MEDINA CITY SCHOOLS

 

                                                            Starting Salary:  $18.57/hr.

                                                            Plus benefits per negotiated contract

NATURE OF WORK:  Shall report to the Head Custodian and will function as lead employee as part of a custodial crew for providing a safe, clean, and healthy school environment.  Duties include mowing lawns and maintaining grounds; sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, and waxing floors; requisitioning equipment and supplies; unlocking and securing buildings; plowing and shoveling snow.  This employee will be assigned to work a rotating schedule on first, second, or third shift.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  High school diploma or equivalent required. Related work experience strongly preferred. Able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; ability to work well with others; working knowledge of custodial duties such as; general cleaning practices; safety procedures; proper care and storage of chemicals; basic knowledge of plumbing, electricity, and carpentry; computer skills; as well as physical and mental ability to perform the essential functions of the job.

 

NATURE OF EXAMINATION:  The written test is weighted at 100% and will test for knowledge of cleaning practices; safety practices; supervisory skills; mathematics; tools and equipment; basic building maintenance; and working with others.  A passing grade is 70% or above.

 

VETERANS PREFERENCE: Any veteran of the U. S. Armed Forces who has served on active duty for more than 180 consecutive days and has been honorably discharged and who passes the examination may receive additional credit, provided proof of honorable discharge (DD-214) is presented and verified prior to the date of the examination.

 

PROBATION: All persons appointed to permanent positions are subject to a probationary period of 120 days worked.  The probationary period is an essential part of the examination process used for the effective adjustment of the employee and the elimination of any probationer whose performance fails to meet the required standards of work.
