Medina City Schools announces an open, competitive examination on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 to create an eligible list for the following classification:
INSTRUCTIONAL PARAPROFESSIONAL (TEACHER AIDE) - MEDINA CITY SCHOOLS - Starting Salary: $14.61/hour
Applications and information for this examination may be obtained at the Medina Civil Service office at Medina City Hall, Lower Level, 132 North Elmwood Avenue, Medina, on September 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 18, 19, 20, 21, and 22, 2017 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. ONLY. APPLICATION DEADLINE IS 4:00 P.M. on Friday, September 22, 2017.
NATURE OF WORK: Aide position for Medina City Schools. Duties may include any of the following classroom functions including reinforcing teacher initiated instruction; working with small groups following a teacher’s instruction; aiding students in make-up work; guiding independent study and remedial work as instructed by a teacher; and reading to children/listening to children read. Office functions such as typing, sorting mail, answering phones, using office machines, and preparing reports as required. School media center duties include acquisition, distribution, utilization, and maintenance of resources; assisting students and/or teachers with research materials and sources; helping to set up and run book fairs. Student health/safety duties including catheterization, diaper changing, and bathroom assistance. Training and overseeing student aides; demonstrating use of equipment. Informing building principal of matters as required. Other related duties as are reasonable and proper when requested by school administration.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Two to five years of related experience. Possession of a high school diploma and ability to qualify for aide permit. Ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to maintain records and prepare reports; ability to make mathematical computations; ability to operate basic office machinery (copier, typewriter, laminator); ability to assemble data and maintain records; ability to work well with children, school staff, and the public.
NATURE OF EXAMINATION: Written examination will test for knowledge of general office skills, reading comprehension, basic mathematics, health and first aid, and working with others. A passing grade is 70% or above. ALTHOUGH ADMINISTERED BY THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION, THIS IS NOT A CIVIL SERVICE POSITION.
VETERANS PREFERENCE: Any veteran of the U. S. Armed Forces who has been honorably discharged and who passes the examination may receive additional credit, provided proof of honorable discharge (DD-214) is presented and verified prior to the exam date.
PROBATION: All persons appointed to permanent positions are subject to a probationary period of 120 days worked. The probationary period is an essential part of the examination process used for the effective adjustment of the employee and the elimination of any probationer whose performance fails to meet the required standards of work.
