School Repair Person

 Medina Civil Service Commission announces ongoing collection of employment applications in consideration to fill openings in the repair person classification.

                                                    Salary:    $19.91-$21.51 /hour plus benefits  (hourly wage is under negotiation)

NATURE OF WORK:  Under the direction of the Manager of Buildings, Grounds & HVAC, is responsible for construction and repair projects in the City Schools’ buildings and its grounds.  Performs HVAC, carpentry, welding, electrical, and plumbing tasks.  Assist with maintenance of grounds including planting, mowing, and trimming. Other related duties as required.  MAY REQUIRE WORKING A ROTATING SCHEDULE that includes weekends.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  High School graduate or equivalent, along with one to three years related experience. A working knowledge of HVAC, carpentry, welding, electrical, plumbing, and general maintenance.  Ability to understand and follow verbal and/or written instructions.  Working knowledge of planting and maintaining lawns, trees, and plants.  Possession of valid Ohio driver’s license required.

 

NATURE OF EXAMINATION:  Written exam will test for knowledge of building maintenance including HVAC, carpentry, welding, electrical, and plumbing; care and use of tools and equipment; knowledge of grounds maintenance; and working with others.  A passing grade is 70% or above. All test results and scores are subject to public record laws. APPLICANTS MAY BRING A SIMPLE 10-KEY HAND-HELD CALCULATOR FOR USE ON THE WRITTEN EXAM.   

 

VETERANS PREFERENCE:  Any veteran of the U. S. Armed Forces who has served on active duty for more than 180 consecutive days and has been honorably discharged and who passes the examination may receive additional credit, provided proof of honorable discharge (DD-214) is presented and verified prior to the date of the written exam.

 

PROBATION:  All individuals appointed to permanent positions are subject to a probationary period of 120 days worked.  The probationary period is an essential part of the examination process used for the effective adjustment of the employee and the elimination of any probationer whose performance fails to met the required standards of work.
