The Goal of the 55 and Better Club is to Exercise the Body, Educate the Mind and Make New Friends

Exciting things are going on in the Medina Community Recreation Center for the 55 and Better group! From the 55 and Better Guest Lecture Series to Pickleball, Bunco, Walking Club, Wii Bowling, Euchre, Chess, and Craft Series - there's always something going on for the seniors in our community.


GUEST LECTURE CANCELLATION POLICY: If Medina City Schools are cancelled due to weather, the MCRC 55 & Better Guest Lecture Series will also be cancelled. If Medina City Schools have a 2 hour delay, the Guest Lecture Series will go on as scheduled.

The 55 and Better Guest Lecture Series is held at the Medina Recreation Center Community Rooms, just off the lobby. Join us to learn about important topics and issues, meet doctors, healthy living information and lots more. The free lectures are held on certain Fridays from 10:30- 11:30 am. Lunch or refreshments to follow each lecture. A very generous group of local assisted living facilities and other businesses provide the delicious lunches for the events. Get healthy, stay active, and meet new friends in the MCRC's Senior Sneakers Walking Club! Walk or jog around the track for some great aerobic activity. Log your miles running or walking the track, using the treadmill or elliptical or swimming laps in the pool or taking exercise classes. Earn incentives for staying active and reaching mile goals. Fee is per day of participation - Free for MCRC Members and Silver Sneakers Members and $1 for non-members to come and walk on Fridays from 9:30 to 11:30 am.


Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the world. We play indoors on the Field House courts. Pickleball is similar to tennis but on a smaller scale and not as strenuous. Meets on Mondays, Wednesdays  and Fridays September thru May from 8:00  to 10:00 am with a different schedule during the summer months. Fee is per day of participation. Free for MCRC Silver Sneakers and Optum Fitness members, $4 for non-members. No registration needed just show up when you can.


Get healthy, stay active and meet new friends. Class meets every second and fourth Friday of the month from 10:00-11:30 am. Whether you have played Wii bowling or not, come and learn or hone your skills. Fee is per day of participation. Free for MCRC and Silver Sneakers members, $1 for non-members. No registration needed just show up when you can.


Have fun testing your luck and rolling the dice at the MCRC. Class meets the first Tuesday of every month at 10:00 am in the cafe. Fee is per day of participation. Free for MCRC, Silver Sneakers members and Optum Firness Members, $1 for non-members. No registration needed just show up when you can.


Bring your own supplies and make something for yourself or to donate to a local charity! All are welcome whether you are new or experienced at crocheting/knitting! Refreshments sponsored by Brookdale Senior Living Medina South and North.


Tuesdays and Thursdays 10am to 12 pm in the cafe. Free for members, $1 for non-members


Join us to make a fun craft project brought to us by Michele from Griswold Home Care. There is a $5 donation payable to the instructor at the start of each class. Great for men and women! Preregistration is required - Space is limited so register early.  See current Program Brochure for details.

SilverSneakers Classic
Move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase strength and range of motion. Hand-hel weights, elastic tubing with handles and a SilverSneakers ball are offered for resistance. A chair is used for Support. Free for SilverSneakers Members.

SilverSneakers Splash
Activate your urge for variety! Splash offers fun, shallow-water movement to improve agility and flexibility while addressing cardiovascular, strength and endurance conditioning. No swimming ability is required, and a SilverSneakers kickboard or other aquatic equipment is used to improve strength, balance and coordination. Shallow water moves to improve flexibility and cardiovascular endurance.
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 10:30-11:15am
Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:00-9:45am.
SilverSneakers Yoga
Move through a whole-body series of seated and standing yoga poss and breathing exercises. Chair support is offred to safely perform a variety of seated and standing postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity. Free for SilverSneakers members.

SilverSneakers Circuit
Combine fun with fitness to increase your cardiovascular and muscular endurance power with a standing circuit workout. Focus on upper-body strength with hand-hedl weights and use resistance tubes and a SilverSneakers ball for a low-impact aerobics workout. (A chair is used for support.) Free for SilverSneakers members.
