 Medina Civil Service Commission announces an open competitive examination for the following:

     GENERAL SECRETARY  -  MEDINA CITY SCHOOLS

                                                                                                        Starting Salary:  $19.08-$21.13/hr.

          A COMPLETED EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION IS REQUIRED.

NATURE OF WORK:  Secretarial position for Medina City Schools.  Duties may include public contact, handling routine correspondence independently, bookkeeping, filing, and use of computer, copier, fax machine, telephone, and other such duties as are reasonable and proper when requested by a supervisor. Need to present a poised professional image while being a good ambassador for our schools.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  One to two years secretarial experience; ability to follow instructions; ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports; ability to make mathematical computations accurately; ability to assemble data and dispense information; ability to maintain a courteous and pleasant attitude and to get along with others. High school diploma or equivalent required. Excellent computer skills necessary.

NATURE OF EXAMINATION: The examination process will consist of 1.) a simulated computer test over the Microsoft Word 2019 program and 2.) a written test. Candidates will sign up for computer test when they submit their application.  The computer skills test will be given one-on-one by September 13, 2023 to help evaluate your skills and ability in using the computer program.  This section is scored pass/fail, with a score of 70% or above noted as passing. Candidates receiving a passing score on the computer section will participate in the written exam.  A written examination will be administered to test for knowledge of mathematics, spelling, alphabetizing, word meaning, English usage, proof reading, and reading comprehension.  A passing score of 70% or above is required to be ranked on the eligible list. All test results and scores are subject to public record laws.

VETERANS PREFERENCE:  Any veteran of the U. S. Armed Forces who has served on active duty for more than 180 consecutive days and has been honorably discharged and who passes the examination may receive additional credit, provided proof of honorable discharge (DD-214) is presented and verified prior to the date of the written examination.

PROBATION:  All persons appointed to permanent positions are subject to a probationary period of 120-work days.  The probationary period is an essential part of the examination process used for the effective adjustment of the employee and the elimination of any probationer whose performance fails to meet the required standards of work.
